Forward-Deployed Engineering

Senior engineers embedded inside your teams, working on your problems in your environment.

01 / Overview

Most technology projects fail in the gap between the people who understand the problem and the people who build the solution. Forward-deployed engineering closes that gap.

Our engineers work alongside your operators, analysts and leaders. They learn how work actually gets done, find where technology can change the outcome, and then build it — inside your systems, under your constraints, with your team.

02 / Problems we address

Where this helps.

ISSUE/01
Requirements lost in translation
Specifications pass through several hands before reaching engineers, and what gets built no longer matches what the business needed.
ISSUE/02
Pilots that never reach production
Proofs of concept show promise but stall when they meet real data, real security controls and real users.
ISSUE/03
Internal teams at capacity
Your own engineers are committed to keeping existing systems running and have no room for new, high-priority initiatives.
ISSUE/04
Vendors who leave after handover
Delivered software is hard to operate and evolve because the knowledge left with the vendor.

03 / What we deliver

What you get.

  • 01Embedded engineers working on-site or within your teams' working rhythm
  • 02Problem framing grounded in observed workflows, not assumptions
  • 03Production software integrated with your existing systems
  • 04Documentation, runbooks and knowledge transfer to your team
  • 05A clear record of decisions, trade-offs and next steps

04 / Typical engagement

How an engagement runs.

  1. 01

    Discovery

Time with the people closest to the problem to map workflows, systems, data and constraints.

  2. 02

    Embedding

Engineers join your team's cadence — stand-ups, reviews, operational meetings.

  3. 03

    Build and integrate

Iterative delivery into your environment, with working increments reviewed by real users.

  4. 04

    Handover and continuity

Structured transfer to your team, or a continued engagement to operate and improve.

05 / FAQ

Questions we're often asked.

What is forward-deployed engineering?

It is a delivery model where engineers work inside your organisation, alongside the people who run the operation, to understand a problem first-hand and then design, build, integrate and deploy the solution in your environment — staying accountable until it works in day-to-day use.

How does a forward-deployed engineering team work day to day?

The team joins your working rhythm — stand-ups, operational reviews and the channels where problems surface — observes real workflows, and ships working increments that your users review early. It follows five stages: understand, embed, engineer, deploy and improve.

When should a company bring in an external engineering team?

Typically when a priority initiative needs engineering your internal team can't absorb, when previous pilots stalled before production, or when the problem needs people who can both understand operations and build software.

How is embedded engineering different from traditional IT consulting?

Traditional consulting often delivers recommendations or specifications through hand-offs. Embedded engineering keeps the same engineers responsible from understanding the problem to running software, with short feedback loops and knowledge transfer to your team.
